Limelight
Step Into the Limelight: Live Classical Performances in a Friendly Setting
Limelight gives all classical/acoustic musicians an opportunity to perform live and music-lovers the chance to experience live music in a different environment and a friendly format. It is held six times a year – every other month.
Limelight was established in Furness in 2011. We were thrilled to move to the Hall in North West Music Academy in 2023 and we look forward to welcoming you into its fabulous acoustic! If you would like to share a piece of music or try it out before your exam or audition, just come along. Let us know beforehand if possible.
If your music requires piano accompaniment and you don’t have your own accompanist, bring the printed piano part and perform with one of our in-house accompanists.
Our events guarantee variety – perfect for an audience of mixed age and experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, though we like to practice taking a formal bow to the applause!
We take a break for a brew/drink halfway through.
Sit back and enjoy the performances – Step into the Limelight!

The Background to Limelight
It’s a challenge to develop skill as a performer of classical music. It feels different playing your pieces with an audience there. Experience is needed to display the results of all those hours of practice with poise and composure. Putting on a concert is costly, and inappropriate if you don’t have a whole evening’s worth of music ready to go.
Limelight aims to provide a friendly and accessible opportunity for classical musicians of all ages to give short performances, gaining priceless experience in performing and giving pleasure to listeners by sharing their music. It also aims to provide music-lovers with a fresh new format and an easy way to support grass roots classical music in South Cumbria.
Each event consists of a succession of short performance slots, structured to maintain contrast and variety. All performers are encouraged to give a brief spoken introduction to their music and to take a bow at the end.
